Welcome back Miss Lewis! Her newest single is called Better In Time. It’s from the album Spirit, and it’s one amazing song! It’s not amazing in the grandeur way like Delta’s single was, but it’s amazing in how it appeals to the heart and emotional needs of the listener.
A song is hopeless and pointless if it doesn’t appeal to the listener and grab the heart. It’s the reason why “Falling Slowly” by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova won Best Original Song and Jennifer Lopez screwed up so badly with “Brave”.
The beauty of Better In Time is not her vocal prowess, which isn’t very impressive here like it was in Bleeding Love. The beauty instead lies in how Leona is able to strike up that emotional chord and tug on heartstrings, singing about love getting better with time and getting stronger with each passing of hardship.
Leona goes lightly on the vocals, opting to go for Mariah-sounding technique rather than Whitney-strength powerhousing. She depends on the rousing underlying beat and the chorale back-up to advance the song further, which means the musicality of the song is given its dues.
Better In Time is a must-listen for all who fit the following categories:
1) Hearts have been broken
2) People whose relationships with family, friends and lovers are going through rocky patches
3) People who need motivation and strength in their lives (because their lives seem so awfully dim now)
4) People who appreciate subtlety, preferring marvelous tuning and gentle vulnerability rather than throaty growls and house-destroying screams.
All in all, another great piece of work from Leona Lewis, and one that definitely showcases her range as an artiste and as a singer! Well done!
